properly tested Aug 20, 2003 This is an awesome Reciever. The person who rated this with only two stars has no idea how to test a reciever of this caliber. I used a 7.1 channel Cambridge Soundworks speaker system to test this monster(T500's), also compaired it against a real reciever(Harmon/Kardon 525) and it did more than advertise. The seven seperate powered channels alone speak for themselves(which no other company makes).

THIS SYSTEM KICKS ...!!! Aug 09, 2003 This is Onkyo's best product for the price and it doesn't disapoint! THX only gives certification to the best built recievers which usually cost serveral thousands of dollars. I have this one and love it. In order to maximize the benefit of this system you have to hook up a decent speaker system. I used Bose direct/reflect system and makes for a 'theater like' experience. This unit is worth every cent!!

blah Jul 10, 2003 Did a side-by-side comparison at home with my old Yamaha DSP-A1 (which is Dolby Pro-Logic only) and I honestly didn't hear any improvement over the Yamaha after about a week of watching THX certified DVDs on a Sony Elite player with very good Paradigm speakers (7 speaker configuration for Onkyo, 5 for Yamaha). Actually I preferred the Yamaha which had a warmer and richer sound. The Onkyo is going back to Circuit City this week.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
