A perfect fit for old technology. Apr 05, 2010 I have an "old school" component video input high-definition television along with coaxial audio input to my receiver which supports DTS audio. It was great stuff back in 1999 when I bought it. I found this product at a great price, $88 I think, and it fit my needs perfectly. Now I get high-definition picture quality along with DTS sound through my receiver. A very nice solution to keep me from having to upgrade my whole audio-visual set-up to current HDMI format.
There are two negatives to report. One, it makes a humming noise while it is running the disc. Two, it takes a minute to open the disc deck when you hit the eject button. OK it feels like a minute, but it's probably about 30 seconds. Solution one, watch action movies with plenty of audio and you won't notice the background hum. Solution two, whistle a tune to yourself when you are standing by the player waiting to put in a new disc. I find Yankee Doodle fills the gap nicely!
Works okay so far Mar 17, 2010 I bought it for myself to watch DVD and BlueRays in my bedroom. It seems to work fine and the picture is good. I was kinda disappointed that the remote it came with was for another player, but it works.

tried in store Nov 28, 2009 After Returning a bd-p1600 samsung {junk} my search was on again. This MAGNAVOX was hooked up at my local department store. The picture was sort of grainy so I asked the lady if I could get it hooked up to another tv. She went and got a guy that did it for me. I didnt see much difference. I left there and went to a electronics store. I saw a panasonic BD-60 there that was awsome. Fantastic picture... I bought it. Plays everything I put in it. Its more money but the picture makes this magnavox look like a vcr. I cant say how this holds up? Bad thing is it may hold up for yrs and you have to look at a terrible picture forever.

Does the job Oct 10, 2009 Pretty good player I have not had any trouble with it to this point. One thin I did notice is that originally I had the video resolution set to 1080p24. I was watching The Dark Knight and a couple times it skipped half a scene after locking up briefly. Since I have changed it to 1080p setting I have had no troubles (outside of a scratched disk causing errors).
Overall very good.

SIMPLY AMAZING PICTURE AND SOUND Oct 08, 2009 After reading all the reviews I decided that I would take a chance at this blu ray player which at the time was offered at Walmart for $98.00. When I went back to the store, they actually had a later model on the clearance rack for $68.00 without the remote. Well I took a chance and I have nothing but good things to say. Every blu ray played except Batman Begins. I downloaded the firmware update from the manufacuturer's website and everything is fine. Thanks for all the reviews and I guess its hit or miss since some got a machine that was a lemon.

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!
Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)
The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)
"Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."
Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
