3point you in the right direction  Feb 16, 2010
hey,

the problems you are all having would be alleviated if you realized that hitachi sells an HDTV tuner box sperate from this display which allows it to act as a TV instead of just a display. This TV tuner has several additional HDMI inputs as well. I do not have this TV but have just ordered the 42" version and they discuss the TV tuner issue in those reviews - I recommend you look there.

2LED TV is a MUCH better option  Nov 29, 2009
I've had this product for a couple of months, and... meh, it's ok, but not great.

Pros:

It is super sleek and looks very nice.
On-screen setup menu is fairly easy to navigate.

Cons:

Does not have a TV tuner built-in.
Only has 2 inputs - a VGA connector, and a single HDMI connector.
Picture quality is just ok, tried different settings and the image on my cheap Olevia HDTV is still better.
It's expensive.

The combination of not having a TV tuner plus only having a single HDMI input is a real problem. Most regular cable/satellite/external-tuners DO NOT come with HDMI outputs, only the pricey ones do. On top of that, if you have other video sources such a DVD player, media player, etc., you have to use an HDMI switch - which isn't the end of the world, except most likely your DVD player won't have an HDMI output, so you have to get a component-to-HDMI converter. After it's all said and done, you'll end up spending a whole lot more money than you originally had planned, and you'll have a small jumble of small devices and cables in order to get all your devices playing on this monitor.

If you want a thin sleek look, I would recommend getting an LED TV. They have built in tuners and a variety of video/audio inputs so you won't have to deal with the hassle of living with only a single HDMI input.

5Absolutely Amazing! and thin!  Oct 07, 2009
This monitor is absolutely amazing. Stunning color, ultra-thin, absolutely amazing video processor, and full HD. I have an Apple TV connected to it and love to watch the photos and video clips. If you have a cable box, you can watch cable on it too (the only item the other reviewer rated it low for, but it is obviously a monitor and not a TV as it doesn't have a channel changer).

You will love this item!

1Kidding Me  Jan 23, 2009
I just bought this product and I was so excited to receive it today. Try to hook up but this TV has only HDMI input and I wasn't able to plug into my cable box. I went to store to find right cable and they found out that this is HDTV Monitors. Eventually I need to call cable company to get HDTV receiver which cost more than 100 bucks. You should named this product as TV MONITOR not just TV. need High Definition Multimedia interface which I didn't know. So disappointed...

Consumer Reports Says: Buy HDTV at Amazon!

Washington, D.C. (July 2010) -- When it comes to price, Consumer Reports says shoppers are most likely to find the best deals online. And the publication called three ecommerce sites "standouts" in this year's Consumer Reports ratings of electronics stores: Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and B&H (bhphotovideo.com)

The magazine's survey was based on more than 38,000 purchases of electronics, including flat-screen TVs, between January 2009 and June 2010. The report indicated that online stores consistently offered better prices. (The magazine's full report can be found in its July 2010 issue.)

"
Buying online can be better," the magazine said in a press release. "The higher-rated electronics retailers in Consumer Reports annual reader survey are Web sites. Readers who bought online rated their overall satisfaction at 90 out of 100 -- higher than those who bought in a store. Additionally, many Web merchants offer free shipping, even on TVs, which could spare the hassle of struggling to fit a bulky carton in the car or paying a local store for delivery."

Consumer Reports said that while no single retailer scored excellent in all shopping categories, Amazon.com came closest.
